To use, assign a separate material number to the baseshape(s) to which you want to apply this gradient. Then, select this material number and apply this gradient to the ambient, the diffuse, or both.

As a rule, the closer the baseshape is to a sphere, the more clearly the image will reflect. If the baseshape is complex, you'll still see the colors from the gradient, but the image will be scrambled.
